Project – Initiating and Developing Community Recycling initiatives 2002 - 2011

Hackney Freecycle Van

Overview: Managing Director Les Moore, following training in 2000 – 2002 as a Community Enterprise Consultant, has gone on to start and develop a number of highly successful community recycling initiatives, many of which remain in  operation.

This success led to Les being invited to Chair the Community Empowerment Network for Hackney’s Local Strategic Partnership, Team Hackney (2005-2010), one of the most succesful Partnership’s in the country.

Specific Challenges

The specific challenges included:

  • Resolving vested interests
  • Maintaining personal and professional integrity
  • Adopting a financially sustainable model, not reliant on public funding

Lessons Learnt

The lessons learned included:

·        Team building

·        Joining professional trade associations

·        Listening skills
